Feel more confident every time you head out on the water.

A VHF radio is one of the most important pieces of safety equipment on board, but it is only useful if you know how and when to use it. This one-day RYA Marine Radio course is designed to give you the knowledge and confidence to operate a fixed or handheld VHF radio correctly, including distress, urgency and safety procedures.

Delivered through Chichester Boat Club at Northshore Marina in Chichester Harbour, this is a practical, supportive course for boat owners, club members, charterers and anyone who wants to feel more capable on the water.

The RYA Short Range Certificate is the minimum qualification required to operate VHF and VHF Digital Selective Calling equipment on a British flagged vessel fitted with a radio. It is also commonly required when chartering a vessel.

Why train with Chichester Boat Club?

Chichester Boat Club is based in the heart of the Chichester Harbour boating community, helping people build skills, confidence and independence on the water. Our training is friendly, clear and safety-led, with guidance from people who understand real boating conditions, not just the theory.

Whether you are new to boating, preparing to charter, or simply want to feel more confident using your radio, we’ll guide you through what you need to know in a calm, practical way.
